Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Opioids

About

Medication Assisted Treatment combines prescription medication like Suboxone (and other buprenorphine based medications) with behavioral therapy to treat opioid addiction.

Many patients stay with Ideal Option for 12 months or longer and progress through a four-stage treatment protocol:

1) First two weeks of treatment -- patients visit clinic twice per week and we prescribe 3-5 days of medication at a time.
2) Next four weeks of treatment -- as patients stabilize, we see them weekly and prescribe 7 days of medication at each visit.
3) After ~six weeks of treatment, patients showing signs of stability may be able to see us once every two weeks.
4) Very stable patients may shift into a maintenance phase with appointments once every 3-4 weeks for as long as necessary.

2) Treat: provider will prescribe a combination of medications such as bupropion, naltrexone, and buprenorphine based on assessment/lab test results.

Alcohol use disorder can be treated with medically assisted treatment. Our program is three steps:

1) Assess: Provider will perform a series of clinical assessments and lab tests to diagnose and determine severity of withdrawal period if you are still drinking. For severe cases, inpatient treatment may be recommended.
2) Withdraw: If you are still drinking when you start the program, the next step is withdrawal management. Provider will develop a personalized medication-assisted treatment plan and meet with you daily for a 4-5 days as you manage your withdrawal at home and arrange for a responsible adult to be with you at all times during withdrawal if possible.
3) Abstain: Transition to a different medication plan designed to prevent relapse. You start with weekly appointments and then monthly as you become more stable. Occasional lab tests will be performed to ensure your safety and to monitor progress.
